In the summer of 2026, the Bundesjazzorchester (Bujazzo) will present an extraordinary musical project centred on cultural exchange between Germany and Armenia. Armenia, a country with a rich history, diverse culture and a vibrant jazz scene, provides the inspiration for ‘Mountains and Melodies’. The Armenian composer and pianist Yessaï Karapetian and the saxophonist, composer and Artistic Director of the Bundesjazzorchester, Theresia Philipp, are jointly developing a unique programme that combines the musical traditions of both countries in surprising ways. From 15 to 22 August, the young musicians of the Rheinsberg Music Academy will be rehearsing new works composed especially for the Bujazzo. The compositions combine openness, mutual inspiration and a love of dialogue. They reflect the diversity and dynamism of both cultures and invite the audience to experience the unifying power of music at first hand. Following the concerts in Germany, the journey continues: the Bundesjazzorchester will perform the programme in Armenia, thereby building a musical bridge through workshops, school concerts and joint sessions that extends far beyond the boundaries of jazz. With “Mountains And Melodies”, the Bujazzo sends a strong message of artistic innovation, international exchange and cultural diversity.
