Boundless music

Classical music and jazz on one stage

Classical music and jazz - two musical worlds that rarely share the stage. But the BJO and the Bujazzo are daring to take exactly this step. Under the direction of Jonathan Stockhammer, Germany's best young musicians present a concert programme that blurs the boundaries between the genres. A special highlight is the charismatic singer Malika Tirolien. Her music, a mixture of jazz, soul, funk and Caribbean influences, is arranged by Stefan Behrisch in a suite in which she shines as a soloist. The programme showcases the creative dialogue between classical music and jazz: Milhaud's "La Création du Monde" marks the beginning of this connection, followed by Wynton Marsalis' "Manhattan to L.A.", which fuses big band swing and symphonic soundscapes. Duke Ellington's "Night Creatures" invites you on an imaginative journey, while Sofia Gubaidulina's "Revue Music" plays with quotes from popular music. Composer and arranger Libor Šíma ventures a special experiment with "Sledgehammer Reloaded", inspired by Peter Gabriel's iconic song. Finally, Bernstein's "Three Dance Episodes from 'On the Town'" brings Broadway flair and rousing joie de vivre to the stage. A concert that shows how classical music and jazz can inspire each other and create new worlds of sound!
