In autumn 2025, the Bundesjazzorchester will honour its founding father and longstanding artistic director Peter Herbolzheimer. He would have turned 90 this year and is still regarded as one of the most influential bandleaders, composers and arrangers in Europe. He shaped the big band sound for decades and laid the foundations for the promotion of young talent in German jazz.

Jörn Marcussen-Wulff is the musical director. Together with instructors who have all played under or with Peter Herbolzheimer, the Bundesjazzorchester is developing a programme that brings the unmistakable sound language of this legendary big band heavyweight back to life. In addition to his own compositions, the programme includes selected arrangements by Herbolzheimer's long-time companions who have shaped the sound of the Bundesjazzorchester over the decades.

With this programme, the Bujazzo is sending out a musical signal of appreciation for Peter Herbolzheimer. The young talents of the current line-up have the unique opportunity to get to know his music in the original arrangements and the audience can look forward to a very special experience.
